Good to know before you go

Towpath Landing is a collection of restored riverfront camps, not a hotel. Here’s what to expect — and what to bring.

Arrival and check-in

  • Check in after 3:00 PM; check out before 11:00 AM.
  • Self check-in with a lockbox. Your code is sent the morning of your stay.
  • Towpath Road is mostly a single-lane camp road where people walk and bike. Drive under 10 mph — guests who speed are asked to leave.
  • Park where your cabin's instructions say. Cabin 12 guests: use the marked area next to the cabin, not across the road.

Drinking water

  • All cabins run on filtered river water. It's fine for showers and dishes, but bring your own drinking water.

Dogs and pets

  • Dogs are welcome at every cabin except Cabin 14, which is pet-free for guests with allergies (service animals only).
  • Up to 2 dogs per stay with a pet fee, unless Christine approves otherwise. Cabins 6 and 12 allow 1 dog.
  • Dogs must be leashed outdoors. No cats, please.

Kayaks and the river

  • Kayaks, tubes and life jackets are free to use at the shared waterfront between Cabins 9 and 10.
  • Paddle to the sandbar island across the river, under the Twin Bridges, or through the Vischer Ferry Preserve.
  • Always wear a life jacket. The river, the shoreline and the kayaks are at your own risk — rocks can be slippery.
  • Water access differs by cabin. Some have their own shoreline; others sit high above the river and use the shared area. Each cabin's page says which.

What to expect

  • These are camps in the woods, being restored one by one — crooked floors and all. Clean and well stocked, but not a hotel.
  • Expect nature: bugs, wildlife, and the occasional rough edge. Things do go wrong sometimes — message Christine and she's quick to respond.
  • Every cabin has a full kitchen, linens and towels, Wifi, heat, air conditioning, and a fire pit — AC coverage varies, so check each cabin. There's no washer or dryer.
  • A shed with games for indoors and out is available — just ask.

Kids, stairs and accessibility

  • The cabins sit on the river, so they aren't ideal for small children who need close watching near water.
  • None of the cabins are currently accessible for guests with limited mobility; several have steep stairs or rocky paths. Christine plans to make some cabins accessible in the future.
  • Cabins with stairs or tricky paths are noted on their pages.

What to bring

  • Drinking water.
  • Firewood, if you plan to use your fire pit.
  • Bikes — the Vischer Ferry bike trail starts at the property entrance.

House rules

  • No parties or events, and no more guests than your booking.
  • Smoking outside only, and some cabins are fully non-smoking — check your cabin.
  • Security cameras cover the entrance to the property only — none near the cabins.
  • At checkout, just tidy up. We take the trash and linens. A quick message when you leave helps.
